The goals of this activity are to improve the prevention and diagnosis of cardiovascular disease, as well as the management of patients with cardiovascular disease. After completing the activity, the clinician will be better able to: 1.List several reasons why positron emission tomography may see greater use in the next few years. 2.Summarize lessons learned from the 5-year results of the STAMPED trial comparing bariatric surgery versus intensive medical therapy in obese patients. 3.State the recent change to the guidelines relating to culprit-only versus multivessel revascularization following ST-elevation myocardial infarction. 4.Discuss the results of recent trials in the use of stem cell therapy in patients with myocardial infarction and/or heart failure.
