Osteoporosis is common, and associated fractures are both costly and morbid. This virtual patient module is an interactive web-based tool aimed at educating physicians on the importance of recognizing osteoporosis, as well as practical information on how to diagnose and manage osteoporosis in different clinical settings. Special attention is given to application of the FRAX tool, as well as the 2008 National Osteoporosis Foundation Guidelines. This module consists of four cases, 1) a 70 year-old postmenopausal with risk factors and needs to be screened for osteoporosis 2) an 84 year-old nursing home resident with hip fracture 3) a 73 year-old woman with glucocorticoid induced osteoporosis and 4) 74 year-old male with osteoporosis. Each case has questions interspersed along feedback with correct answers and links/video clips for additional information. Each case ends with teaching summary and references.
