The goal of this program is to improve management of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to: 1.Identify the category and severity of asthma in symptomatic patients. 2.Select appropriate first-line agents for treatment of asthma and COPD. 3.Outline a stepwise approach in the management of asthma. 4.Counsel patients with COPD about nonpharmacologic therapies. 5.Distinguish obstructive from restrictive lung disease on the basis of spirometry findings.
