The goals of this program are to promote prevention of bullying of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth, and to improve management of the psychologic effects of such bullying and other traumatic experiences in adolescents. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to: 1.Correctly define and distinguish between the terms gender role, gender identity, sexual orientation, and sexual identity. 2.Recognize the prevalence and effects of bullying on LGBT high school students. 3.Make diagnoses of stress-related disorders in accordance with updated criteria in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (Fifth Edition). 4.Use effective psychotherapy techniques for treatment of trauma. 5.Determine when pharmacotherapy is indicated for the treatment of trauma in children and adolescents.
