The goals of this activity are to improve the prevention and diagnosis of cardiovascular disease, as well as the management of patients with cardiovascular disease. After completing the activity, the clinician will be better able to: 1.Summarize emerging pharmacotherapies and device-based therapies for managing patients with acute decompensated heart failure. 2.Discuss differences between new US and European hypertension guidelines and controversies surrounding new recommendations. 3.List three controversial elements to the new Guideline on the Treatment of Blood Cholesterol to Reduce Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Risk in Adults. 4.Explain how recent research has changed some of the standard recommendations for treating patients with diabetes mellitus.
